Application Process and Admissions

The next available term of entry for our Flex MBA program will be Fall 2026. We anticipate that the application will open in November.

We encourage you to join our mailing list so that you will receive updated information about our program, the application process, and our application deadlines.

When reviewing applications, our admissions committee conducts a review of each application to determine a candidate's readiness to take on graduate-level work. It’s important to note that our review process is a holistic one and we consider many factors beyond just an applicant’s undergraduate GPA. The committee also considers factors including but not limited to the applicant’s professional experience, test scores, and writing abilities.

If you have questions about your eligibility for admission based upon your undergraduate GPA, your academic background, or any other aspect of your application, please contact our recruiter.

Applicants are required to submit the following materials as a part of their application to our Flex MBA program:

  • Completed online application
  • A copy of the official results of your GMAT or GRE or GMAT/GRE Waiver Form
Please note that approval of waiver is not guaranteed even for those who meet the waiver criteria.
  • A scanned copy of official transcripts from all universities or colleges, where degree was conferred
NOTE: Graduates of Virginia Tech do not need to submit official transcripts. Applicants who attended Virginia Tech can submit a copy of their unofficial transcript from Hokie Spa.

Prospective students may choose to apply as Commonwealth Campus students prior to being fully admitted into the MBA Program. In this case, students must first meet the minimum GPA requirement to be admitted into the Flex MBA program as Commonwealth Campus students and will then be enrolled in only one MBA core course. This provides the applicant with more time to complete his/her application packet and to be considered for regular admissions status in the following semester.

Commonwealth Campus admittance into the Flex MBA Program is granted by the Program Director. The applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA; GRE/GMAT scores are not required for this phase and can be provided later to fulfill regular admission requirements. The Commonwealth Student status is a temporary status and students cannot register for courses in the Flex MBA program without the consent of the Program Director.

Students enrolled in an MBA course under the Commonwealth Campus status who later decide to pursue the Flex MBA in degree-seeking status must submit a new online application to enter the Flex MBA program. Please refer to the Graduate School website for more information on Commonwealth Campus status.

International applicants must keep the following instructions in mind when applying:

  • International applicants must apply using their legal name exactly as it appears on their passport.
  • Students with undergraduate degrees from universities outside the U.S. should also submit a report from a credential evaluation service that converts grades into a GPA with a course by course evaluation of their degree. Virginia Tech will accept evaluations done by any credentialing agency listed on the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services web site.
  • The Evaluation Company is one available international transcript evaluation service. They have created a custom webpage for Virginia Tech's MBA programs that will make sure MBA applicants select the right kind of evaluation at a discounted rate. You can find the custom webpage here.
  • TOEFL scores are required of all international students whose first language is not English, except those applicants who have graduated from an accredited university where English is the language of instruction.
  • Additional information for international graduate students can be found on the Cranwell International Center website.

Virginia Tech is a community with a long military history and is one of only six schools in the nation classified as a Senior Military College. Over the years, we have been proud to count many active duty military, retired military and veterans among our MBA students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

We are pleased to offer the following benefits to Flex MBA candidates who are a part of the military community:

  • Universal tuition rate: This rate won't change if you are reassigned to a new state in the DC area during the course of the program
  • Dedicated support from Office of Veteran Services: Specific questions regarding military benefits are handled by the Office of Veteran Services at Virginia Tech. We especially encourage you to review the Benefits page, as it includes detailed guidelines about the steps you will need to take to get certified. You can apply for your benefits even before applying to our program. After reviewing the information on the Office of Veteran Services website, please feel free to reach out to the Office of Veteran Services directly at veteran@vt.edu.
  • Application Fee Waiver: Military applicants can request a waiver for the $75 application fee during the online application process by following the instructions below:
