Application Guidelines

To complete and submit your application, the following application materials are required:

• Completed online application form
• A copy of the official results of your GMAT or GRE or GMAT/GRE Waiver Form (please note that waivers are not guaranteed)
• A scanned copy of official transcripts from all universities or colleges, where degree was conferred (NOTE: Virginia Tech students do not need to submit official transcripts)
• A copy of your resume
• One letter of reference required (a second letter is optional)
• Required essay
  • Our program is now located at Virginia Tech's new academic building in Alexandria, Va. This relocation marks an exciting new chapter for our program and our students. We recognize that this transition will require flexibility and adaptability among our students, faculty, and staff. Please share with us a transition you made in your personal or professional life. How were you able to ensure this transition was a smooth one, and what did you learn from this experience?
    
• Video Prompt: We find that one of the most important factors our students must consider when beginning their MBA is timing. Please submit a two-minute video telling us why you have chosen to begin your MBA at this time. What makes it so that this feels like the right time to take on graduate coursework and the commitment necessitated by a graduate program? Please note that we encourage you to record this video with your cell phone. We do not expect this video to be highly produced.
• Optional statement
  • Please feel free to submit a statement that includes any additional information you believe would be helpful to the committee regarding your academic or professional history. This may include an explanation of academic issues, employment gaps, or to highlight academic, personal, or professional accomplishments that will strengthen your application.
• Academic and professional goals statement (as required for all Virginia Tech graduate students)
  • Applicants are asked to provide a 1 - 2 page, double-spaced personal statement that adresses why you are pursuing a graduate degree, why at Virginia Tech, and why now.
• A non-refundable $75 application fee

Commonwealth Campus Admission
Prospective students may choose to apply as Commonwealth Campus students prior to being fully admitted into the MBA Program. In this case, students must first meet the minimum GPA requirement to be admitted into the Evening MBA program as Commonwealth Campus students and will then be enrolled in only one MBA core course. This provides the applicant with more time to complete his/her application packet and to be considered for regular admissions status in the following semester.

Commonwealth Campus admittance into the Evening MBA Program is granted by the Program Director. The applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA; GRE/GMAT scores are not required for this phase and can be provided later to fulfill regular admission requirements. The Commonwealth Student status is a temporary status and students cannot register for courses in the Evening MBA program without the consent of the Program Director.

Students enrolled in an MBA course under the Commonwealth Campus status, who decide to pursue the Evening MBA on a Regular status basis, must submit a new online application to enter the MBA program. A non-refundable application fee is required. Please refer to the Graduate School for more information on Commonwealth Campus status.

Exemptions
No exemption of core coures is allowed.

Transfer Students
In certain cases, it is possible to transfer up to nine hours of elective courses from an AACSB-accredited institution to the Evening MBA Program with prior approval. Only elective courses which meet the requirements of the Evening MBA program and were completed prior to admission to Virginia Tech are considered. Courses completed more than five years prior to admission are not eligible for consideration. Enrolled Evening MBA students are required to take all their required and elective courses in the program at Virginia Tech. Students will not be permitted to take or transfer any of the MBA courses from other universities following their admission into Evening MBA program.

The MBA Program Director will review the appropriateness of all requests for transfer credit of courses completed prior to admission. This typically takes place when the student formalizes his/her application for admission and should be completed as early as possible prior to the admission decision.

Transfer credits must also follow the requirements of the Virginia Tech Graduate School. In part, this requires that the student has received at least a grade of "B" to transfer the course. An official copy of the transcript from the transfer institution should be sent to the MBA Program Office.
